Lot Essay

The steamer Henry R. James, 3,146 tons, was built by J.L. Thompson & Sons for the Henry R. James Steamship Co. in 1909. One of the many casualties of the Great War, she sank after striking a mine on 16 July 1917 whilst bound for Middlesbrough from Bilbao carrying a cargo of iron ore.
