Lot Essay

A similar set was discovered during the excavation of Smithfield Vaults on London. The coffin from which they came did not bare a coffin plate, so it was not possible to precisely date the skeleton. However, judging from the known period of the vault, the position of the coffin and other factors, the set was dated as no later than 1830.
