with gilt-metal mounts, the case with arched and stepped top with urn finials, with foliate mounts, caryatids trailing foliage to the front angles, sound frets to the sides and back door, on stepped rectangular base with scroll feet, the dial with silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with matted centre and pierced hands, anthemion spandrels and floral bouquet to the arch, the twin going barrel movement with anchor escapement and strike on two gongs, German, late 19th century -- 25in.(64cm.) high
