Lot Essay

The Dallmeyer serial lens numbers date to c.1876. This camera is stamped with the number 940 on the focusing screen holder, front and rear boxes and wet-plate slide.

The design for Dallmeyer's binocular camera was introduced in 1861 and followed F. R. Window's design where a smaller front box moved inside a larger rear box by a rack and pinion.
