Sir John Smyth, 4th Bt. (1776-1849) and his brother, Sir Hugh Smyth (1795-1824) were the sons of Sir John Hugh Smyth (d. 1801)

It has been suggested that the miniature of Sir John Smyth is by Miss Rolinda Sharples. She made two copies for Sir John Smyth's sisters in 1829
