When this sculpture was exhibited in 1920, it brought Schotz to the notice of critics and sculptors alike, op. cit. Benno Schotz lecture., 1966. "I came face to face with realism and tried to put down what I saw behind the mask. I tried to give the clay the living quality of the spirit".
