An Arita blue and white baluster jar
Edo period (late 17th Century)
Painted with shaped panels alternately enclosing a bijin standing under a parasol beside an attendant and a vase filled with a profusion of peony, all reserved on a trellis diaper-pattern ground enriched with small flower-heads, the shoulder encircled by a broad washed-blue lappet collar with lotus below a honey-comb pattern band round the rim
