An Imari saucer and plate
The first circa 1700, the second circa 1720
The saucer painted in green, iron-red, aubergine, black and gilt enamels, the central roundel enclosing a peony stem issuing from rockwork, surrounded by petal-shaped panels enclosing alternately pine and a conch shell reserved on a wheel-pattern ground and a quatrefoil cartouche of a bird on a wave-pattern ground; and a plate decorated in gilt with a central ho-o bird among paulownia, repeated on the everted rim, rim crack restoration
