Lot Essay

Panels in the shape of pomegranates are a feature rarely seen on 'kraak' porcelain, and even then they appear to be exclusive to pouring vessels. A similar example is illustrated in M. Rinaldi, Kraak Porcelain, London, 1989, p. 171, pl. 214. A pair of double gourd vases in the Rijksmuseum show a similar decoration, see C. Jörg & J. van Kampen, Chinese Ceramics in the Collection of the Rijksmuseum, p. 67, no. 53.
