Lot Essay

In the Museum für Angewandte Kunst in Frankfurt, there is a showcase exhibiting three examples of these kettles from different periods and material: one similar to this one in blue and white porcelain from the Kangxi period; an 18th Century pewter kettle with copper inlays; and a later 18th Century green-glazed porcelain Guangdong example. A similarly shaped Imari silver-gilt mounted example was sold in our Rooms, The Dutch Interior, 28 September 2000, lot 255.
