Lot Essay

Watch-holders of this form probably derive from Meissen originals of circa 1750, which were used mainly in Germany and Scandinavia. Compare the watch-holder and cover, formerly in the Pierre Blazy Collection, Paris, illustrated by M. Beurdeley, Porcelain of the East India Companies, London, 1962, cat.89; another by D.Howard and J.Ayers, China for the West, London and New York, 1978, vol.II, no.586, pp.565 and 567.
