Han, Tang and Song Dynasty
The tall muscular foreign groom standing with legs braced on a narrow oval base, the arms stretched out as if to hold the reins of a stubborn horse, the well modelled bearded face with determined expression, the hair gathered at the back, traces of white slip, red and black pigment, some restoration, 31.5 cm. high; the bowl with globular body rising to a short flaring rim, supported on three paw feet, covered with a controlled splash glaze of amber, green and straw colour falling short of the base, restoration, 14.7 cm. diam.; and a green-glazed pillow of oblong octagonal shape, the top incised with sprays of white lotus and green peony on an amber ground, some flaking and cracks, 29.4 cm. wide (3)
