The above cap has remained with the Smith family and has always been with the International jersey. However the family are unable to shed any light on its association with Arnold Kirke-Smith. Nevertheless, it may be assumed that the cap has a football connection and therefore could have worn by Kirke-Smith in either the International match against Scotland on 30th November 1872 or during the 1872-3 F.A. Cup final when Kirke-Smith was part of the losing Oxford University side.
