AN OLD BABYLONIAN CUNEIFORM CLAY TABLET AND ENVELOPE FRAGMENT
CIRCA 1900-1700 B.C.
The tablet with 16 lines of text consists of a letter to an individual called Shallurum, expressing the writer's anxiety that Shallurum has not responded to previous correspondence, the text reading "Speak to Shallurum: Thus says Sîn-ahsared, 'May Shamash [the Sun-god] keep you in good health. On the subject of Mânum, father of the young man who is my servant, I have indeed written to you five times. The writing which I am doing, I am getting it to you more than daily! ... Send me a reply to my letter.'", chipped; and half of the envelope giving the name of the recipient and the sender's cylinder seal impression inscribed "Sîn-ashare[d], son of Igmil-..., servant of (the god) Amurru", repaired
