Lot Essay

Cf. P. Amandry, Collection Hélène Stathatos: les bijoux antiques, Strasbourg, 1953, pp. 42-43, no. 70, pl. XVI. Similar gold jewellery has been found at Sindos in Macedonia. The earrings have a decorative element at the wider end which would have ornamented the front of the ear lobe, with the tapering end looping back to be attached behind the lobe.
