A ROMAN POTTERY LAMP WITH HERAKLES
1ST CENTURY A.D.
The concave discus decorated in relief with Herakles, wearing characteristic lion-pelt, slaying Ladon, the mythological snake-like monster which guarded the golden apples in the garden of the Hesperides, the triangular nozzle with twin volutes; and another Roman pottery lamp, the concave discus with an actor wearing bearded dramatic mask, draped and gesticulating with his right hand, surrounded by acanthus leaf moulding, small splayed nozzle with side volutes, the ring pierced handle with basal twin volutes, concentric moulded circles on the base, minor handle chip, 1st-2nd Century A.D.
