Lot Essay

Without the prenomen it is uncertain to which royal Psammetichus this inscription refers, but it is possibly Psammetichus I, under whom Egypt returned as the dominant power in the Near East. Psammetichus III was defeated by the Persian army in 525 B.C. at Pelusium and subsequently transported to Susa.
