AN APULIAN RED-FIGURE AMPHORA, ATTRIBUTED TO THE WHITE SAKKOS PAINTER
LATE 4TH CENTURY B.C.
Side A: a naked youth with spear and cuirass seated within an Ionic naiskos, an upturned phiale behind him, flanked by a woman holding an alabastron and phiale to left and naked youth, but for a cloak draped over his right arm, with laden phiale, fillet and staff to right
Side B: profile female head wearing sakkos, ringlets of hair falling in front of her ears, with earrings and double stranded necklace
Palmettes below the handles, rays around the shoulder and laurel beneath the rim, band of meander below the scenes, repaired
