A ROMAN GOLD AND GARNET INTAGLIO RING
CIRCA 2ND-3RD CENTURY A.D.
The solid hoop with raised bezel, the intaglio with draped female deity, with arm resting on altar behind her, holding corn-ear(?) out in front, a single gold boss on the shoulder above, 9/16 in. (1.4 cm.) across inner hoop; a silver and garnet intaglio ring, the ring of similar form, the intaglio with standing figure of Athena wearing crested helmet and peplos, a spear in one hand, a shield behind her in the other, 2nd-3rd Century A.D.; a cornelian intaglio, with three corn-ears within a vessel, a pair of crossed cornucopia below, set in modern gold ring, intaglio 2nd Century A.D., both 5/8 in. (1.6 cm.) across inner hoop; and thirteen mainly cornelian engraved intaglios, some modern (16)
