AN EGYPTIAN 'BLUE' INSCRIBED PILGRIM 'NEW YEAR' FLASK
SAITE PERIOD, CIRCA 6TH CENTURY B.C.
Of rounded form with neck in the form of a truncated papyrus column, incised with a broad, beaded collar around the shoulder, an incised hieroglyphic column on either side reads: "Happy New Year to you, Ptah is its protector", repaired and restored, 6¼ in. (16 cm.) high; twelve inscribed and uninscribed faience and pottery shabtis, 4 in. (10.1 cm.) high max.; a steatite cowroid, rev.: Hathor sistrum, Dynasty XVIII; three other scarabs, 5/8 in. (1.5 cm.) long max.; two faience wedjat-eyes and a group of other amulets, 2½ in. (6.5 cm.) high max.; a pottery lion mask; the lower part of a pottery torch; and a wooden gesso gilded and red and blue painted recumbent falcon, 6 in. (15.1 cm.) long, all mainly Late Period/Graeco-Roman(a lot)
