A ROMAN RED POLISHED WARE SKYPHOS
CIRCA 1ST CENTURY A.D.
With two ring handles, the body moulded with vine leaf and grape pattern below a row of ovolo, one handle restored, 5¼ in. (13.2 cm.) across handles; a red slip ware bowl with the relief head of bearded Dionysos in the centre, wearing a fruit and leaf wreath, encircled by a ring of stamped rouletting, 2nd-3rd Century A.D., 7 in. (17.8 cm.) diam.; a red slip ware bowl, the broad rim decorated with appliqués of two crouching rabbits alternating with two baskets of fruit, restored, 4th-5th Century A.D., 8½ in. (21.6 cm.) diam.; and a Hellenistic red slip ware bowl with tongue and beaded decoration below a row of egg-and-dart, Greek maker's mark on the underside, circa 2nd Century B.C., 4¾ in. (12 cm.) diam. (4)
