Modern russet morocco gilt, covers with figures from the books gilt-stamped at corners, edges gilt, original cloth covers bound in at end, by W. Root; quarter morocco slipcase. Provenance: John Taylor Reynolds (bookplates).

SECOND ENGLISH EDITION, preceded by the American edition. The first edition of 2,000 was recalled by Dodgson, following the unsatisfactory printing of Tenniel's illustrations, and was never offered for public sale. Williams-Madan-Green-Crutch 46.
