Tasting note: One of the unqualified successes of the vintage, and probably one of the two or three finest wines made from the Margaux appellation, the 1978 Giscours continues to offer delicious drinking. The color is healthy, nearly opaque dark garnet. The wine reveals a fragrant bouquet of cedar, dried herbs, black fruits, earth, and spice. Medium-bodied, with outstanding concentration, a sweet midpalate, and enough acidity to provide focus, this spicy, surprisingly rich as well as ripe 1978 continues to age marvelously well in the bottle. It is a fully mature but capable of lasting. Anticipated maturity: Now-2008. Last tasted, 10/97. Robert Parker. Bordeaux A comprehensive Guide.
