Maker's mark of Georg Nicolas Bierfreund (Rosenburg 4293), Nuremberg, 1740-1784
Of shaped square form with arched top embossed and chased along the border with flowers, C-scrolls and shells, the central section with plain Tablets of the Law above a compartment holding one engraved shabbat plaque (later), flanked by applied spiralled twin columns with cast rampant lions, a three-dimensional crown is applied on top, the surround chased with scrolling foliage and flowers, fitted with 17th century suspension chain
