The artist gained his soubriquet from his studies in Lille under Louis Watteau, by whom much of his work was strongly influenced, and whose daughter he subsequently married. Primarily a specialist in still life painting, other landscapes known by him include a River landscape with figures before a castle sold, Galerie Charpentier, Paris, 21 June 1960, and a River landscape with figures conversing in the foreground sold, Drouot, Paris, 13 November 1970.
