A FINELY CARVED AND DETAILED EARLY 19TH CENTURY FRENCH PRISONER-OF-WAR BONE AND HORN MODEL OF AN 80-GUN THIRD RATE SHIP OF THE LINE
with bound masts, yards, standing and running rigging with blocks, 'fiddle' prow, head rails, boom kins, catheads, bone anchors, main rail with bitts, deck rings, capstan, stove pipes, well deck, hammock racks, ventilators[?], deck lights, gratings, companionways and other details. The planked and pinned hull with horn wales, retractable turned metal guns operated from stern cords (partially dysfunctional), stern davits with ship's boat, finely carved stern, transom and quarter galleries and rudder, is mounted on a planked bone base with corner urns, itself pinned to a wooden base with glazed wood bound cover (some restoration). Overall measurements -- 20¾ x 26 x 10in. (53 x 66 x 25.5cm.)
