ADMIRAL COLLINGWOOD TO THE MARQUIS OF HUNTLEY REGARDING OUTRAGES BY THE FRENCH IN SPAIN
autograph manuscript written over two sides of a single sheet with undated watermark, addressed 'Ocean off Cadiz - Aug . 22d - 08' The People of Spain have set a fine example to the rest of Europe in the firm opposition they have given to the french Invaders - at the same time conducting themselves with great temperance towards them, which was hardly to be expected after the horrors they committed at Cordoba and Andujar[?] -- they took the frenchmen's trunks &c from them a few days since - and found the contents of them to be entirely plate from the Churches & Houses - and Dupont had the confidence to complain of his having been robbed - to the utter disgrace of the Spaniards; and demanded restitution of, what he called, his property - nothing but a frenchman could have made so unreasonable a demand -- contained within an archive slip with transcript in card file
