Attached to the purse is a note inscribed Purse of King Charles 1st Lent by Rev H J Ward and with the lot is a letter dated 1877 giving thanks for the loan of the purse to the Royal Archaeological Institute.
G Saville Seligman & Talbot Hughes note in 'Domestic Needlework' Country Life 1926, that a 'design of hearts was often employed on purses during Charles II's reign'.
