Julia Lord Barry and Edward Bodman: Photographs and Travel Diaries from 1850-1934
An archive of some 42 pieces documenting the personal life and world travel of the couple. The archive is comprised of handwritten and typescripted travel diaries, extensive photographic albums, maps, etchings, drawings, love letters, a collection of coronation ephemera for King George V in Durbar, Delhi, 1300 negatives, postcards, newspaper clippings, and more. The earliest photographs date from 1899 with a trip to Japan and continue for the next 35 years to such places as Algiers, Cairo, Egypt, West Indies, Java, China, Saigon, Hong Kong, Manchuria, Korea, Siberia, Calcutta, Burma, Rangoon, Singapore, Kashmir, Palermo, Madrid, Paris, Western Europe, England, Jamaica, to name a few. Also included are photographs of the Peking Riots of 1912, Boxer Revolution, an 18 day trip across the Pacific, and a 1923 motor trip in a Rolls Royce.
