Lot Essay

English delft portrait plates of the Hanoverian period are not always numbered next to the monogram making a certain attribution difficult, see John C. Austin, British Delft at Williamsburg (1994), pp. 139 and 140, nos. 185 and 188 for commemorative pieces with this problem of attribution; also see p. 140, no. 189 for a pair of plates with portraits of George II and Caroline.
