Etched frontispiece portrait on india by and after William Strang in volume I, double-page 'Map of the Wessex of the Novels and Poems' printed in red and black by Emery Walker after Hardy bound in at the end of volume II, woodcut TH device printed in red on the colophons. (Variable spotting.) Original blue cloth, the upper covers gilt with TH devices, the spines lettered and decorated in gilt, uncut, some gatherings unopened (extremities a little rubbed, some browning on endpapers).
