Lot Essay

This chair shares several characteristics with a small group of early Windsors which are discussed and illustrated in Dr B Cotton, The English Regional Chair, Woodbridge, 1991, p.45, fig.tv12 and tv.13.
Notable features are the thick, shaped seat; an additional raised toprail and a central vertical post in the spindle gallery.
Fig's TV12 and 13 were sold, each with its pair, at Christie's, 19 November 1992 Lots 65 and 66 by The Shell Museum, Glandford, Norfolk.
