WARRE 1970
Lying in Wiltshire
Warre--Vintage 1970
Oporto-bottled. Slightly corroded capsules. Bin-soiled and damaged labels. Lot 195 three corks slightly raised, two with signs of seepage. Levels base of neck or better. Lot 196 all with signs of seepage. Levels base of neck or better
Tasting note: a mass of notes. Well over two dozen since the mid - 1970's, all complimentary. By 1990, pristine purple easing a little, and strating to mature; lovely fruit, fragrance and vinosity. One bottle in 1994 packing a punch, lacking Warre elegance, another, later, 'elegance' re-instated. Later still the same year, at a big Symongton tasting, firm flavour noted. Next year in Hong Kong, complete. And so forth. My notes range from medium sweet to very sweet but, as so often, one's perception depends on the context in which the wine is tasted and drunk. Let's settle for sweet, full-bodied, rich, almost too rich, yet not overpowering, with the perfect weight and balance I expect from Waree at its best. M.B.
