MARY PICKFORD AND DOUGLAS FAIRBANKS ENGRAVED ICE TONGS
A set of sterling silver ice tongs made by The Reed & Barton Company that were given to Hollywood's first "power couple" Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks for a wedding gift. Unique in design with the fork part resembling a bird's talon and the spoon part having a decorative cut-out pattern, this peice has an inscription on the handle portion reading To Mary and Doug. A letter of provenance from Don Chalif, who consigned the item and whose mother was Mary Pickford's cousin, is included and states in part "both my parents were very close to Mary and Doug, spending a great deal of time at Pickfair...over the years my parents received many gifts from them...they received (the tongs) during the 1930s."
7 1/2 inches
