"Flash Gordon" was born on January 7, 1934. Cartoonist Alex Raymond and writer Don Moore created the character for King Features Syndicate, the world's premiere distributor of cartoons and comic strips to newspapers. In 1936, Universal Studios bought the rights to the comic strip character and set about making a film serial in 13 chapters, starring Buster Crabbe as "Flash Gordon", the first screen superhero.
Color posters were only printed for Chapter 1 and this feature-length version of the serial. The remaining chapters of the original series were advertised with duo-tone posters. This poster was created after all chapters had been showed. At this time, the serial was edited from 13 chapters down to one feature-length movie. There are very few posters existing on this title.
