maker's marks of William Aytoun, Edinburgh, 1740, assaymaster Dougal Ged
Of slightly squat bullet shape, on domed circular base, chased around the rim with panels of fruit, foliage and scrolls, with partly fluted curved spout, hinged cover with conforming bullet-shaped finial and leaf-capped scroll handle, engraved with a crest and motto

marked under base and engraved scratchweight 20=13

The crest is that of Rankine of Dudhope, Forfarshire or Campbell of Auchinbreck
