Napoleonic Interest: A George III Silver Vinaigrette

Oblong, with reeded border and foliate scroll thumbpiece, the hinged cover engraved with a crowned 'N' and 'Obit 5 May 1821' 'AEtat: 52', the gilt interior with hinged cover set with panel of bevelled glass, containing a folded piece of cotton cloth and a folded piece of paper handwritten with the note 'on this piece of cotton cloth are preserved a few of the last drops of Napoleon's heart's blood. Thomas Shortt M.D.'; also a gilt-tooled green morocco desk blotter and various documents, including one unsigned note describing 'My Napoleon relics..', and another bequeathing the same to an unnamed beneficiary signed 'Elizabeth Rutherford' and 'Written at Dalhousie, 20th July 1870'
