A VICTORIAN SILVER PRESENTATION FLAGON
Makers mark of Robert Hennell 1864
Of tapering cylindrical form engraved with panels of strapwork enclosing flowerheads within beaded borders.
The inscription reads: "Presented to Daniel Macnee Esq. RSA by AGM 1866".

Lot Essay

The Dictionary of National Biography records that Sir Daniel Macnee RSA succeeded John Graham Gilbert as President of the West of Scotland Academy in 1866 and it is possible that this silver flagon was a presentation to Macnee from his friend Archibald Gray MacDonald to makr his appointment as President.
