Lot Essay

From information provided by the vendor, we are able to identify this portrait as the Isabella which was probably built in Greenock in 1817 for Stirling and Gordon, Glasgow. She was a registered barque of 406 tonnes which initially traded between Glasgow and the West Indies. From 1835, she appears in most annual records of the Lloyds Register until 1850, when she was purchased by J Mackellar, Glasgow and transferred to the port of London, where she traded to Singapore.
