Born in Stockholm, he ran away to Spain at the age of 15, where he learnt Spanish. He then moved to Morocco where he was employed as a private zoo-keeper by a local dignitary to the Spanish Sultanate, and later returned to Spain to study taxidermy at the University of Barcelona. Forced to return to Sweden to complete his compulsory military service as a Spanish/Swedish interpreter, he found himself unable to support his family due to inadequate academic qualifications, so was compelled to work as a snake-charmer, morgue attendant and apprentice goldsmith. However, as taxidermists were in short supply, he set up the Stockholm Biological Laboratory with two colleagues; the work included fossil and gorilla cranium hunting in the tropical jungles of Africa. This was followed by a move to modern day Harare, Zimbabwe, to become curator of the museum's fossil collection. There he discovered and excavated one of the world's largest dinosaurs. When Max returned to Sweden from Africa he set up an antiquities gallery in Stockholm and another in London with a partner. Fifteen years ago he moved to Ireland and there found a welcome peace among its people. Note to Jan: did you father find the dinosau skeleton in the museum or digging? I think it needs clarification. Please fax me soonest. thanks Tim.
