A boxwood monkey group
19th Century
carved with two monkeys seated on rockwork with crustaceans, the first monkey grabbing and pulling an octopus appearing from an openwork section to the rockwork below, the second monkey with its arms around the other helping to pull -- 2½in. (6.3cm.) high; and an ivory netsuke of an apple with trailing stalk, an openwork section to the side revealing figures beside a hut, incised signature to stalk -- 1½in. (3.7cm.) wide, (minor wear).
