An ivory and silver kagamibuta
19th Century
of circular shape, the plain ivory inset with a silver plaque cast in relief with a butterfly among peony -- 1 7/8in. (4.7cm.) diam.; a similar kagamibuta inset with a bronze shibuichi plaque decorated with a bird in flight above a crab -- 1¾in. (4.4cm.) diam.; another similar kagamibuta, the ivory of ribbed form, the shibuichi plaque decorated with a seated figure beside a dragon appearing from a cup -- 2in. (5cm.) diam.; and another kagamibuta, the bronze and gilt plaque decorated with ducks beneath a moon, inset in a naturalistic stag-antler surround -- 1¾in. (4.5cm.) diam., (plaques loose).
