A large Satsuma circular dish
Meiji Period
of flattened form with short vertical rim, painted and gilt with bijin, families and merchants gathered on a bridge along the banks of a river, within a mountainous landscape of pavilions surrounded by pine and cherry blossom trees, all encircled within a border of scattered fans, the exterior with floral medallions alternating with flower sprays -- 13 3/8in. (34cm.) diam, (minor gilt rubbing), signed Dai Nihon, Kyoto, Tojiki Goshigaisha, Ryozan sho, above a Shimazu mon and below the Yasuda company trade mark. (Great Japan, Kyoto porcelain company, genuine Ryozan).
