Plain circular and on spreading foot, with leaf-capped reeded loop handles, domed cover and detachable crest finial, with gadrooned borders, the body engraved with a coat-of-arms within drapery mantling and a presentation inscription, the cover with a crest and motto, marked on foot, cover and finial

The inscription reads, 'Presented by the EAST INDIA COMPANY TO CAPTN ARCHIBALD HAMILTON in testimony of his Gallant Conduct in the defence of the SHIP the BOMBAY CASTLE, on the 15th of February 1804. When a FLEET of sixteen of the COMPANY'S SHIPS under the orders of COMMODORE SIR NATHANIEL DANCE beat off a FRENCH SQUADRON under the command of ADMIRAL LINOIS consisting of the MARENGO OF 84 GUNS, THREE FRIGATES AND A SLOOP'
