On reeded domed foot and with baluster stem, the bowl held by three straps engraved with foliage, the plain rim later engraved with script initials SCG, marked on foot and rim

It has been suggested that the CU mark is for the Chinese export maker, Cutshing, 19th century.

A very similar coconut-cup struck with the same maker's mark, from the collection of Major Ian Shaw of Tordarroch, was sold Christie's & Edminston's, 29 March 1983, lot 17. It was then suggested that piece was Scottish.
