The partnership of Edward Nairne and his former apprentice, Thomas Blunt was established in 1774 and they worked from the Royal Exchange in Cornhill, London, Later No. 20-2 Cornhill. Well-known for making all sorts of mathematical, scientific and philosophical instruments, they were distinguished by the high quality of their production. Nairne and Blunt apparently continued to work seperately under their own names while still selling instuments jointly, and the name of the partnership was used until 1822, in spite of Nairne's retirement in 1801 and subsequent death in 1806, (see N. Goodison, English Barometers 1680-1860, Woodbridge, 1977, p.186).
