Dr. Henry Sacheverell on the 5th November 1709 preached a sermon at St. Paul's on the High Church High Tory doctrine of Non Resistance. He was impeached, convicted but given a nominal sentence.
The Eye of Providence beams upon St. Paul's [The Church of England] and Queen Anne, Sachervell stands attended by the six bishops who voted for his acquital with an Angel holding a mitre over his head. On the right King Charles I and the other Anglican martyrs rise from their tombs. On the far left the Duke of Ormonde and Speaker Bromley ride and disturbe a seven headed hydra; on the right a Papal assault is deflected by another Angel and the Roman Church sinks into sand; in the foreground a sea-monster breathes fire and on the right King David plays his psaltry to the Serpent.
