Lot Essay

Exhausted by his trip up the Nile and visit to Egypt, early in the summer of 1867 Lear decided to tour the Italian lakes rather than continue on to Palestine. He visited Garda, Idro, Iseo, Varese, Como and Maggiore and Orta before returning to England.
