Depicted mummiform with the arms folded over the chest, wearing a tripartite wig, with seven lines of hieroglyphic text and cartouches containing the nomen and prenomen of Pharaoh Sety I, traces of bitumen preserved throughout

Lot Essay

The tomb of Sety I was excavated by Giovanni Battista Belzoni in the early 19th century. Many shabtis from the tomb are now in museum and private collections. See for example see pp. 100-1 in Scott, Temple, Tomb, and Dwelling: Egyptian Antiquities from the Harer Family Trust.
