AN APULIAN RED-FIGURED RHYTON
Attributed to the Iliupersis Group, Circa 360 B.C.
Molded in the form of a bull's head, the cylindrical bowl with flaring lip, the handle concave in section, the bull's head naturalistically modelled, with short incised lines around the tapering horns and incised and textured locks for the poll, with fleshy wrinkles over the reserved eyes, the irises and pupils in black, the bowl with a nude youth and a draped woman, the youth seated on his mantle, holding his right hand over a phiale held in his left, the woman seated on rocks, holding a mirror in her right hand and a fillet in her left, a band of ovolo at the rim, and scrolling tendrils on either side of the handle
